What started out as a day watching the wheelchair rugby, turned into 3 days trying to document the event. As this was my first time actually watching wheelchair rugby live, it meant a huge learning curve to try and work out how the sport worked, and what the best strategy was for getting the best photos; shoot from the side or the end of the court, follow the ball or watch the players off the ball.
It was incredible! Teams included Paralympians (& in some cases, multi sport paralympians!), so the calibre of athlete was high. The amazing control of their chairs & lightning speed down the court had to be seen to be believed. If you ever get the opportunity to watch this live, take it. The sound of the chairs colliding is completely unlike what you hear on the tv, and you can really feel the noise and effort.
Thanks to Wheelchair Rugby Australia for allowing me to roam the sidelines!
