The Canon Collective is an initiative by Canon which allows people to try their equipment or learn more about your own equipment, in areas & situations which are out of the norm. I have attended several of these events in the past but this one was a little special – half an hour in the air over the Sunshine Coast in a R44 helicopter, with the doors removed.
Apart from the pilot, there were two passengers in the helicopter meaning that 100% of the time was available for shooting, and no chance to miss any shots because another person was in the way.
It was an early start from the Gold Coast to get to Sunshine Coast Airport, but the weather was kind and the day could not have been any better.
The flight went south from Marcoola over land to Caloundra before heading over the water and travelling north along the coast past Mooloolaba and Maroochydore.
Seeing as the Canon equipment was available for loan, I used a 50.6 megapixel EOS 5DsR coupled with the 24-105 f/4 II lens.
