Apart from the chance to use some Canon gear that one wouldn’t normally get their hands on, one of the biggest benefits of the Canon Collective events is the opportunity to photograph in locations & at events that are unreachable for Joe Public.
Case in point; The V8 Supercars Ride Day at Sydney Motorsport Park. This annual event has been run on the Monday following the round at Sydney Motorsport Park so that the teams can take their sponsors & supporters for hot laps. To photograph the V8’s from “the other side of the fence” normally means years of applying to CAMS with portfolios, & working your way through the ranks. On this day, we signed our lives away, put on the “one size fits none” Media vest, & set out to view the circuit from several non-public areas. The vest also afforded the courtesy of Pit Garage entry, in amongst the mechanics & vehicles before they ventured onto the track.
